“Just put on something cute”

IMG_6542Girlfriends are great. You can always depend on them to be there for you when you need it, give you advice, and keep you grounded. I don’t know about you, but whenever I am about to go out with a friend of mine, one of us will inevitably text the other, “So, what are you going to wear?” For me personally, this is a way for me to gauge how dressed up/ down everyone else is going to be so I know I won’t be too over the top. Yesterday, two friends of mine had a good laugh at my expense, because apparently whenever they ask me this question, I always respond, “Oh, I’m just gonna put on something cute.” Yeah, that is just so helpful and specific, right?!

On another note, I wanted to post this top because a) I’m really obsessed with it, b) eyelet is huge for summer, and c) it looks just like a more expensive top from Zara that is trying to be Oscar de la Renta. This top is pretty and feminine, but the eyelet gives it that something different that is so much more interesting than a plain white shirt. Another reason eyelet is awesome: built in ventilation. It is really heating up around here, so fashion that also keeps me cool is a win-win.

(UN)basic black

IMG_6485
I am not usually an all-black kind of girl. If you took one look into my closet, you would see an overwhelming amount of color and print, because those are my favorite things to wear. However, sometimes you gotta go back to the basics. Don’t be fooled though: just because you are wearing one color doesn’t mean your outfit has to be boring. To keep a monochromatic look interesting, mix pieces that have different cuts and textures. This sheer top is a great piece for that because it is long and sheer with a built-in top. It’s also an awesome way to try the crop top trend without baring so much skin, plus its super lightweight and breezy for summer.

Dare to Wear Gladiators

IMG_2078I am not ashamed to say that I love love love gladiator sandals. They make me feel kind of like a badass. But as one might expect, wearing gladiator sandals is not for the faint of heart. I definitely get my fair share of sideways glances when I am wearing them, even here in Los Angeles. The other day, in the middle of my Statistics class, my professor even stopped lecturing to comment on my “interesting” shoes. While my Stats professor is notorious for making examples of people who disrupt class by texting or making out with their neighbor (no lie), I knew I ran a small risk of him saying something about these shoes but I figured, hey, I get really good grades, I pay attention, I participate in class, he won’t bother with my shoes. Think again. Older generations might not get these shoes, but don’t let that stop you. If you are still intimidated by them, there are always less vertical versions of the gladiator that still give you the look with out all the looks, if you know what I mean. 😉

Black, White, and Red All Over

IMG_5959What is black white and red all over? A newspaper? An embarrassed dalmation? A sunburned Penguin? A zebra painted red? These would all be appropriate answers to this questions, but, for my purposes, the correct answer today is my outfit. If that’s what you picked the first time, you are soooo smart! 😉

If I have been radio silent this week, I do apologize, but it hasn’t been for lack of wanting to update this blog. I am taking 11 units in school this semester so I’ve been trying to get a rhythm going between juggling work and school. So far those two things have been the only things I’ve had time for. Sad face. If you aren’t suffering through college right now, I envy you. There truly are not enough hours in the day! When I am pressed for time and have no space left in my brain to comprehend what to wear, a black and white combo with a pop of some color is a no-brainer; it always looks put together and classic. At this point in my life, I am all about making this as uncomplicated as possible.

Back to School Duds

DSC_1055
The dreaded has arrived: my Spring semester is officially underway. I am a pretty good student and very determined to maintain my high GPA, however, I think I might have bit off more than I can chew. That being said, I’m trying to think positive and take things as they come. I also bought a planner for the first time ever so I make sure not to miss anything, which is a first for me. Unfortunately, I don’t think that planner is going to have very many social or fun things penciled in. So for all of you out there who aren’t suffering through college in your mid 20’s, please have all the fun for me! In honor of going back to school, here is my “back to school outfit.” Enjoy and I hope you all have a fantastic, homework free evening because I definitely won’t for a long time!

In(vest)ed

IMG_5765I bought this vest during the J. Crew Factory’s Black Friday sale last November, and it has quickly become one of my favorite winter season staples. Winter is pretty mild here in Southern California, so this vest is a pretty perfect way to stay warm on those days when its chilly but maybe not chilly enough for a coat. Having said that, many of my fellow Angelenos seem to think that 60 degrees means throwing on your heaviest winter coat, scarf, and hat…but…I digress. I love this vest because it’s so versatile; you can mix it with different patterns and textures, or dress it up or down. But honestly, the best part about it is how freakin’ comfy it is! Seriously, I feel like I’m wrapped up in a down comforter the entire time I have it on.

In case you haven’t noticed, fashion has been going in a very androgynous direction in the past couple of years. Over-sized fits, sneakers with everything, and sweatpants as fashion are all well and good, but sometimes I just feel like taking a break from all that and embracing my inner girly-girl. So please excuse the ultra feminine vibe of this outfit, because sometimes I just can’t help myself.

Happy Thursday, and thanks for reading! xo

One thing I am really loving lately is taking something that is really dressy and sparkly and pairing it with something that is super casual and everyday. Also, I’m really enjoying taking really casual stuff and wearing it with something dressy. You get my drift (or should I say…midriff?) Ok. That was cheesy to say the least. There’s a lot of things I love about this outfit. One would be these ripped up boyfriend jeans that I am so glad I bought from Forever 21 when I did because they’re gone now. I’m obsessed with them, they are soooo comfy. If my Nana could see me now, she would probably give me an earful about how I should never wear such ripped up jeans. I’ve come to terms with this. Also, I’m sure somewhere my mom is SUPER thrilled that I’m wearing a crop top. This is everything that she WOULD NEVER let me wear as a teenager. I think if I made a habit of wearing a burlap sack as a 14 year old, she would’ve been happier. (Mom if you are reading this, I love you and this is all in good fun.)

In any case, I do love my “disco ball” crop top. However, because it is so sparkly, its hard to wear it under normal, every day circumstances. You may remember that i wore it with a skirt around Christmas time for a holiday party. However, I really love this shirt and want to wear it more than once. The solution is to pair it with very casual pieces, such as ripped up boyfriend style jeans, a plaid shirt, or converse to give it that “I don’t really care what I look like but boy am I sparkly!” look. The key to doing daytime sparkles is just to own it. If you want to shimmer and glimmer before the hour of 7pm, then freakin’ do it! Who is stopping you?! Definitely not me! Rules are meant for breaking people, don’t forget that! 🙂

Thanks for reading, and have an amazing weekend! xo

Style Stalking: Miranda Kerr

Miranda Kerr. She’s kinda the image of perfection. She’s gorgeous, has a booming career, an adorable son, Orlando- well, maybe not him anymore but who needs him! Every time I see pictures of Miranda Kerr, I sort of drool a little. Ok. Yes. I have a huge crush on Miranda Kerr, I admit, but who doesn’t? She always looks so chic, put together, sophisticated…ok, ok. I’ll shut up. I just wish I could look this effortlessly amaze-balls, that’s all!

If you want to channel Miranda Kerr’s effortless style, here’s a few tips:

1. Skinny jeans + pointy toe pumps. You don’t have to be supermodel height to look tall and lean. This combo will fool everyone into thinking you have legs for dayyyys, and who doesn’t want that?

2. A fantastic, sleek bag. Nothing makes an outfit look sophisticated and finished like a great handbag. Miranda Kerr has some gorgeous, drool worthy bags. Invest in a good one and it will treat you well for years to come.

3. Lady-like, tailored silhouettes. Miranda opts for feminine, fitted pieces that show off her frame, however she adds a little edge by throwing leather pants or leopard into the mix. Adding just a bit of something that suggests “rocker” can take your look from boring to cool.

4. Keep it simple. From her clothing choices to her hair and makeup, Miranda seems to employ the “less is more” philosophy. Honestly, when you are this pretty, you really don’t need much embellishment. She shows that you don’t need all kinds of crazy accessories or hair and makeup to stand out.
